ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Honey Monsoon formed in mid-2016 in Ypsilanti, MI. With a shared interest in soul, jazz, fusion, and world music, the group writes, performs, and produces their own music and visual art. Over the last two years, they have developed a following in South-Eastern Michigan, performing at many local venues and festivals including Detroit River Days, Hash Bash, Ann Arbor Summer Festival’s Top of the Park, and Ypsilanti Heritage Festival.

Collectively, the group has a passion for expression, mutual growth, holism, and a dedication to creating positive, uplifting, and honest art. They released their debut album, “Rose Gold”, a sweet combination of jazz and indie with rich lyrical concepts and colorful progressions, in November 11, 2017.

They recently produced and released their second album, “Opal Soul”, in March 2019. It's a change of pace from their previous work, including diverse soundscapes, and world-rhythms, focusing on the truth in life and youth.

Rachael Davis Music and Dominic John Davis both came from Michigan, but each of them are products of very different aspects of Michigan both culturally and musically. Dominic represents the urban culture of Michigan coming from Detroit. Raised in Southwest Detroit Dominic attended Cass Technical High School, a public arts school on 2nd Avenue in downtown Detroit, where he took up playing upright bass and was heavily influenced by the sounds of the city with everything from Motown to rock, funk and hip-hop. Rachael, representing the more bucolic charms of Michigan, grew up in the northern town of Cadillac far from the roar of the city. Steeped in her family’s tradition of folk and old-time music, Rachael came up on the knees of some of the world’s most treasured traditional music artists. Rachael started singing with the family band at 2 years old and in her adolescence was taught guitar and banjo by her father and song-writing by her mother.

Eventually, through different musical groups and bands, Dominic and Rachael wound their ways around into the same musical community. Playing at the same Michigan music festivals and sitting in on the same late night jam sessions, in time, saw the two of them playing in bands together. Finally, noticing the connection was more than musical Dominic and Rachael started a family of their own and continued the tradition of family music hitting the road with their son and playing as a duo all over the nation. Equally influenced by each other, Rachael Davis and Dominic John Davis combine their diverse backgrounds to produce a toothsome style of traditional swing, folk, jazz and blues between the guitar, bass, banjo and ukulele. When they are playing together they love it so much that you can’t help, but to love it, too!
