What an amazing start to the year! We chose to highlight We the People Opportunity Center from January-March and were thrilled with the partnership.
Founded in 2015 by Farmer Melvin Parson, We the People Grower’s Association (WTPGA) is a sustainable farming initiative dedicated to workforce development by creating dignified, employment and training for men and women returning home from incarceration.
In January, we filmed a 2 minute video about Melvin's work with local filmmaker Cody Ryan Martell.
We spent the quarter learning more about this work, connecting with community members and raising awareness.
Co-Director Bekah Wallace joined the We the People Opportunity Center board and led an online giving campaign to raise $50,000 with a $50,000 match from St. Joes.
At the end of the campaign, we hosted a soup supper to celebrate the success of the campaign and tell more folks about this work.
